The Perfume Companion

A Definitive Guide to Choosing Your Next Scent

We are very honoured and delighted to have a number of our perfumes included in a new perfume book.

The Perfume Companion, by perfumer Sarah McCartney of 4160 Perfumes and Samantha Scriven who contributes to perfume site Ca Fleure Bon and founded perfume blog iscentyouaday, has just been published.

Comprising a selection of 500 scents, from iconic stalwarts, indie newcomers and luxury treasures, The Perfume Companion unpacks some of the mystique around perfume and will help you find a scent for any occasion or mood.

They say " We rave about the late Angela Flanders' creations because they deserve it. They have soul, and one small bottle of Ambre Noir has more magic than a whole wheelbarrow of department store scents"

Discover their favourite Angela Flanders Perfumes:

  1. SOLIFLORES - ROSE

    MOROCCAN ROSE

    "A true symbol of love"

"Smelling Moroccan Rose, you can feel the warmth of an evening in a Marrakech Riad, sipping tea by a tiled pool... If it were to take it's rightful place in elegant boutiques around the world it would be four times the price. Instead we too must travel to Angela Flanders to find our Moroccan Rose"

  1. SOFT AMBER - SPICY

    BOIS DE SEVILLE

    "Southern Spanish citrus warmth"

"Angela made this in 1986 when her customers' only option was to visit her wonder of a shop in East London's Columbia Road. Seville oranges, sandalwood and spices make Bois de Seville an approachable, warming autumn and winter amber"

  1. MOSSY - CLASSIC

    PRECIOUS ONE

    " A magical masterpiece"

"In 2012, her handmade fragrance, Precious One, won Best New Independent Fragrance and indie hunters started taking the 55 bus to Hackney. It's a gentle fragrance, considering that it's made with the twin barnstorming seductresses jasmine and tuberose, firmly coaxed into tenderness among the equally wayward oak moss and vetiver."

  1. SOFT AMBER - TOBACCO

    AMBRE NOIR

"A dark secret, which must be shared"

"Smell Amber Noir and you can stop there. Spray it and waves of pure ambery richness entrance you, so intense dark, animalic but sweetly seductive that you wouldn't be surprised if a genie popped up and granted you three wishes. You want irrisistible ? Find this one"

  1. FRUITY - FRUIT BOWL

    FIGUE NOIRE

    " The alternative indie fig"

"Most fig fragrances have the aroma of a cut green leaf; this is nothing like those - it's a spiced, boozy, amber fruit. On hot days it's marvellous: deep, rich, ripe figs falling off the tree right into your cupped hands, squidgy and warm with a light bitterness at the surface"

This is a delightful and informative book with inspiring perfume descriptions easily categorised by fragrance family and lots of practical advice on how to shop for perfume. The perfect gift for anyone who has an interest in perfume.
